MUDS 2012: The Finale & Appearance of Kakithon Logo

It was the clear blue sky and hot sunny day. The finale of Malakoff University Duathlon Series 2012 (MUDS 2012) has been held in Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) on Saturday 26 May 2012. Again Kakithoners need to travel at night from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur. We overnight at one hostel in Puncak Setiawangsa and had a good rest on the mattress and pillow. Before that, Kakithon banner already printed after Gan Chau sent the design less than 24 hours before. 'The Banner' displays memorable moments of Kakithoners from the beginning, Kakithon logo (that nice green leaves formed the foot) and Malakoff logo as our main feeder to make sure we had a transport & bed for all MUDS 2012 races.

Foot Therapy and the Kakithoners inside the bus! We need more people in this bus next year.

We arrived early at UPNM which is located inside Sungai Besi Army Camp. We don't need to check in at the main gate, thanks to the A4 size team logo and race logo printed & patched in front of the bus. After that we do some self preparation: race kit collection & of course pose for photography!

As a finale, the 3km run, 13.8km and final 3km run seems not to far but feel far away from the finish line when the sunshine & the breeze trying to slowdown the competitors. Jiha and I as usual ran and bike together until finish line while I'm busy to paced her, watching other competitor for her and making sure she finished top five to received a medal.

As a result, Wong got 7th place in Men's University Category, Jiha still on the podium last place (5th, Women's Open Category) and Afiedah shocking us when she finished fifth place for Women's University Category. While Syamsul Bahtiar and me play a role as pacer for the ladies. Finally Kakithoners maintain two medals streak for each race during MUDS 2012- the result that no others university can maintain this year MUDS (except UPNM). Congratulation to UPNM for showing a solid performance for entire MUDS 2012 and still dominate both Best University Award and Top University Award.

KAKITHONERS and the logo on the banner!

We survived MUDS 2012

Jiha got 5th for Women's Open Category, while newcomer Afiedah stole 5th place in Women's University and 'kacau' UPNM domination in that category

Post-race activity and bye-bye MUDS 2012!!

As a bottom line, this year MUDS was a great opportunity for new guys in Team Kakithon to learnt from a challenges, the races, the experiences and the memory racing as a independent entity in the real racing world. I already threw my best from organizing Malakoff-UTM Duathlon Clinic in searching new talents, managing team transportation & accommodation for all three series, lend my mountain bike to newbies for their races, played a role as a trainer, motivator and pacer until being a photographer and reporter (when writing this blog post) for the sake of self satisfaction & Team Kakithon name. Perhaps, in near future Team Kakithon will always appear in multi-sport race in this country even we race either as a contender or finisher.

Thanks Quick Release Adventure for organizing the MUDS,
Thanks Malakoff in supporting Team Kakithon for MUDS 2012,
Thanks Kakithoners for your commitment for entire MUDS 2012.
Wishing everyone all the best and RACE WITH YOUR HEART!

Within a week I already confirmed myself registering in three major adventure races in Malaysia. First was a Perak-Columbia Ironbound Challenge 2012 in July, second was International Kinabalu Climbathon in October 2012 and the latest was Putrajaya Urban Adventure Challenge 2012 (PUAC 2012) this weekend.

Team Kakithon by Mentor Training

Interestingly, Mentor Training was a main sponsor for my team and Jiha as my teammate, for PUAC 2012 and Ironbound. That was a great opportunity for ourselves to perform and advertise company brand through adventure race scenes. We also glad to took an opportunity to bring Kakithon name to the main stream of adventure race. Thus, we found Team Kakithon by Mentor Training was suit best for our team.

Jiha and myself started race in adventure race scene for the first time was in 2009, which we compete in JB City Eco-Challenge in separate teams & categories. During that event, the competitors need to running, kayaking, mountain biking and tackling obstacles course. As a result both of us only a step to won the prize money offered by the organizer.

Team Kakithon by Mentor Training will race their inaugural adventure race on this Sunday in green and a capital of Malaysia, Putrajaya. Perhaps our team will perform well and can show the carried brands to the rest of adventure seekers.

MUDS 2012: Kakithon Turned to be Kakikacau!

It was a sunny day on 19 May 2012, when the second leg of Malakoff University Duathlon Series 2012 (MUDS 2012) which had been held at Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang, Selangor. This was a second trip for Kakithoners went to the race fully sponsored by Malakoff Corporation Berhad.

The team show the increased number of participants, as Mr Blackopoulos participated in Men's Open Category,  Jiha in Women's Open Category, Wong & Syamsul Bahtiar (Men's Uni), Lau & first timer Afiedah (Women's Uni), Mixed Team (Afiq, Amirul & Tiang), last minutes withdrawn mixed team (Fikry, Gan Chau, Li Ting).

the inside view of our bus (need some interior modification for this bus) to be look as good as Profesional Teams in cycling world  We reach as early as 6:30 am at race venue

The result, Wong once again being a Kakikacau for Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia domination when he stole the fifth place in Men's Uni Category. Meanwhile, Jiha still on the podium when stood on second runners-up after lost to two white female racer. In Women's Uni Category, Lau & Afiedah seal 8th and 9th places, while our mixed team got fourth place, less a minute to kacau UPNM domination on the podium.

As a bottom line, Kakithon this year is not a strong contender for top podium finish. As we are now more concern in spreading & promoting the word "DUATHLON" among students in UTM campus. To compete & finished the race, is the main focus to keep an interest & implement 'duathlete' lifestyle among newbies. But we're still on the main track to be kakikacau for UPNM podium domination!

MUDS 2012: The Flying Start

Malakoff University Duathlon Series 2012 (MUDS 2012) kick started on 12 May 2012 in Universiti Malaya. There were sunny day and heated with more than 500 participants in this year first leg.

Kakithon Multisports Club this year sponsored by Malakoff Corporation Berhad. This great opportunity dealt since late March 2012 when Malakoff asked Advisor of Kakithon, Mr Blackopoulos in searching the new talents and growing the number of participants from southern region higher learning institute. The first solution was organizing a Malakoff-UTM Duathlon Clinic which was be held on 28 April 2012 in UTM Sports Innovation & Technology Centre.

As a result from the duathlon clinic organized, there were a number of new talents rose to compete in MUDS 2012 this year. Plus, they competed in full duathlon at their first attempt!

This year objectives were not to be on the top of the podium for Kakithoners, because of series number of injuries among our top athletes. They injured themselves after following 'irresponsible' their 'trainer' program for MASUM Athletic Meet in early April. Poor to them.

Jiha, is another icon, top female athlete and legendary MUDS Women's University categories contender proved again that the age was not a hindrance to perform well in Women's Open Category in this first leg. She won the title and claim top of the podium as her kick start race season this year.

Lau Siew Kong and Syamsul Bahtiar both of them were the first timer did full distance. The 'veteran' Lim Kar Sing, just recovered from injury Wong Chin Chun and Amirul Ali who rode in Jelajah Malaysia 2011, competed in Men's University Category. While 'cannot run yet injured' Gan Shih Chau team up together with  Tiang Siew Ping & Afiq Jaafar were the first timer in duathlon relay race.

Jiha at the top of podium for Women's Open Category

Wong (in red) won 5th place for Men's University Category

The result, Wong Chin Chun stole 300 points from Men's University Category, Lau Siew Kong is a minute away to be on the top five ranking, Syamsul Bahtiar & Amirul managed to be on top 20 for Men's University Category. Our mixed relay team still the strongest among others university competed except five UPNM teams.

As a bottom line, Kakithoner trip to the opening MUDS 2012 really different from previous four years. With a sponsorship, Kakithoners grew their number of competitors, grew the interest among newbies and the most important is contribute to rising the number of MUDS participants.
