Perlumbaan basikal Jelajah Malaysia dijadual 27 April

- Bernama

Gain Muscle And Lose Fat, Drink Milk!

ScienceDaily — Part of an ongoing study into the impact of drinking milk after heavy weightlifting has found that milk helps exercisers burn more fat.

The study by researchers at McMaster University and just published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, was conducted by the Department of Kinesiology's Exercise Metabolism Research Group, lead by Stuart Phillips.

The researchers took three groups of young men 18 to 30 years of age -- 56 in total -- and put them through a rigorous, five-day-per-week weightlifting program over a 12-week period. Following their workouts, study participants drank either two cups of skim milk, a soy beverage with equivalent amounts of protein and energy, or a carbohydrate beverage with an equivalent amount of energy, which was roughly the same as drinking 600 to 700 milliliters of a typical sports drink.

Upon the study's conclusion, researchers found that the milk drinking group had lost nearly twice as much fat - two pounds - while the carbohydrate beverage group lost one pound of fat. Those drinking soy lost no fat. At the same time, the gain in muscle was much greater among the milk drinkers than either the soy or carbohydrate beverage study participants."The loss of fat mass, while expected, was much larger than we thought it would be," says Phillips, associate professor of kinesiology at McMaster. "I think the practical implications of these results are obvious: if you want to gain muscle and lose fat as a result of working out, drink milk."

As reported in the first phase of the study, the milk drinking group came out on top in terms of muscle gain with an estimated 40 per cent or 2.5 pounds more muscle mass than the soy beverage drinkers. In addition, this group gained 63 per cent or 3.3 pounds, more muscle mass than the carbohydrate beverage drinkers.

"I think the evidence is beginning to mount," says Phillips. "Milk may be best known for its calcium content in supporting bone health, but our research, and that of others, continually supports milk's ability to aid in muscle growth and also promote body fat loss. To my mind -- with milk being a source of nine essential nutrients -- it's a no brainer: milk is the ideal post-workout drink for recreational exercisers and athletes alike."

Ongoing work with this project will focus on the components of milk that might be responsible for the effects observed by the McMaster-based researchers. The work was supported by grants from the Canadian Institutes for Health Research and a grant from the US National Dairy Council.

Project ‘I Am Malaysian’

Project ‘I Am Malaysian’ is a one-man expedition to London, UK by traversing through Asia and the Middle East on a motorcycle. The journey will start in Kuala Lumpur and will end in the city of London.

The project will be carrying the 1Malaysia banner. 1Malaysia is an idea initiated by Malaysia’s Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

One rider, Syed Hadi, will be going through the rough terrain and unpredictable weather on the route towards London by going through a few Asian countries and the Middle East.

Syed Ahmad Abdul Hadi bin Syed Hussien, 38

The distance between Kuala Lumpur to the city of London is around 25,000 kilometers, along with the programs included in the journey, the rider will be covering close to 30,000 kilometers in total distance.

List of countries that will be visited are:

  1. Malaysia
  2. Thailand
  3. Nepal
  4. India
  5. Pakistan
  6. Iran
  7. Armenia
  8. Turkey
  9. Greece
  10. Albania
  11. Macedonia
  12. Serbia
  13. Bosnia Herzegowina
  14. Croatia
  15. Hungary
  16. Slovakia
  17. Austria
  18. Slovenia
  19. Italy
  20. Switzerland
  21. German
  22. Czech Republic
  23. Deutchland
  24. Netherlands
  25. Belgium
  26. France
  27. Uk

Objectives

The project’s aim and directive is to achieve what most people would just dream of doing. An achievement by a Malaysian is just the same as an achievement of Malaysia.

Through several different approaches, the project will project a general acknowledgement of the 1Malaysia concept, which is unity in diversity.

The 1Malaysia concept is not specific to Malaysia only; as the concept can be applied to the people of the world in general as the world consist of many different races, religions, beliefs and culture.

This project’s aim is just that- to promote unity through a very diverse environment.

Marathon Runners Should Pick Cherries for Speedy Recovery

This is the latest findings by sports scientist in Northumbria University. Hope we can read it and increase our level of knowledge. Enjoy!

ScienceDaily (Apr. 3, 2010) — Dr Glyn Howatson, exercise physiologist and Laboratory Director in the School of Psychology and Sports Sciences at Northumbria University, examined the properties of Montmorency cherries in a study that found that athletes who drank the juice recovered faster after Marathon running than a placebo controlled group.

In the investigation, 20 marathon runners drank either a tart cherry blend juice or a placebo drink twice a day for five days before taking part in the London Marathon and for two days afterwards.

The findings indicated that the group who drank the cherry juice recovered their strength more rapidly than the control group over the 48-hour period following the marathon. Inflammation was also reduced in the cherry juice group, as was oxidative stress, a potentially damaging response that can be caused by strenuous physical activity, particularly long distance endurance exercise.

The study, which was run in collaboration with PhD student Jess Hill of St Mary's University College, concluded that cherry juice appears to aid recovery following strenuous exercise by increasing total antioxidative capacity, reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, hence aiding in the recovery of muscle function.

Dr Howatson said: "Participating in long-distance endurance events, such as the London Marathon, causes a degree of muscle damage and inflammation for the runners. It takes several days to recover and during that period the runner's ability to conduct physical activity can be vastly inhibited.

"The phytochemicals, in particular, anthocyanins found in Montmorency cherries have anti-inflammatory and antioxidating properties, which the research has shown to be effective in helping exercisers to recover from strenuous physical activity."

Although it remains to be examined, Dr Howatson believes that the findings will not only benefit marathon runners but could also have serious implications in the treatment of people living with inflammatory diseases, such as arthritis.

He said: "If funding can be secured to embark on a further study, we can determine whether the use of tart cherry juice has implications for the management of some clinical pathologies that display high levels of inflammation and oxidative stress, such as rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia.

"People are increasingly looking at natural remedies, or neutraceuticals, to treat their conditions, and scientific studies, such as the research into tart cherries, examine the potentially untapped treatments held in natural resources, that can provide adjunct therapy for the management of disease, which can help reduce negative symptoms and improve quality of life."

CLEAN YOUR KIDNEYS WITH LESS THAN RM 1.00

Years pass by and our kidneys are filtering the blood by removing salt, poison and any unwanted entering our body. With time, the salt accumulates and this needs to undergo cleaning treatments.

How are we going to do this?

It is very easy, first take a bunch of parsley and wash it clean Then cut it in small pieces and put it in a pot and pour clean water and boil it for ten minutes and let it cool down and then filter it and pour in a clean bottle and keep it inside refrigerator to cool. You can add a tea bag for more antioxidant agent.

Drink one glass daily and you will notice all salt and other accumulated poison coming out of your kidney by urination. Also you will be able to notice the difference which you never felt before.

Parsley is known as best cleaning treatment for kidneys and it is natural!
